*10 facts about me* It’s been a while since I i *10 facts about me*
It’s been a while since I introduced myself! So here we are:
1. My name is Shana and I’m from a city called Fairfield, California. It’s north of San Francisco, next to Napa (wine country).
2. My favorite activity, other than learning and teaching languages, is hiking in beautiful places! Best yet: Yosemite in California and Merano in Italy.
3. My husband, @lucassantos.07 , is Brazilian. We met online; I was his English teacher! 🥰
4. My birthday is on December 23, so my mom gave me the middle name “Noelle.” In Brazil, everyone calls me by Noelle because “Shana” refers to a private female body part in Portuguese! 😆
5. Our daughters are 4 and 3, and they’re a whirlwind of energy! We speak a mix of Portuguese and English at home.
6. One of my favorite things in the world is a good bakery with crispy, flavorful bread. 🥖 The U.S. lacks in this arena BUT it has improved since I was a kid!
7. In college I got two degrees, one in German and another in Global Studies. German was pretty much because of @nina_bussi 🥰
8. I’m addicted to learning languages and getting to know new cultures. I’ve lived in Germany (2 years), Brazil (2 years), Spain (1 year) and Lithuania, France and Colombia (short-term). I’ve also lived in New York and Texas!
9. If I could imagine the best day, it would involve walking around a beautiful city while listening to a good podcast, eating great food and then spending time with cool people.👏
10. My favorite U.S. cities are Savannah, Georgia / Santa Barbara and San Francisco, California / Austin, Texas / Asheville, North Carolina and New York (😍 Brooklyn!).
Thanks for tuning into the podcast! There’s a lot more to come. 🎤#englishteacher
🎧 New episode is out! In episode 154, you’ll 🎧 New episode is out! In episode 154, you’ll hear a joke, learn the origin of “one’s cup of tea,” hear multiple examples from everyday English contexts, learn synonyms and practice your pronunciation with repeat after me exercises! Don’t miss this episode!
❓ What is one thing that’s not your cup of tea? ☕️
Before making this, I wondered: Is it worth making an episode about “my cup of tea?” I bet you already know it! It’s that popular.
Yes! Of course it’s worth making, because it’s worth listening to—regardless of your level. There are nuances to even the simple expressions in English; aspects regarding usage that can be picked up only after hearing them again and again in conversation.
Hope you enjoy it! 👏

Happy Friday the 13th! Just posted a very special Happy Friday the 13th! Just posted a very special episode:
🎃 The Legend of Sleepy Hollow 🎃
Sleepy Hollow is a quaint village nestled in the Hudson Valley, in New York. There, many many years ago a peculiar schoolteacher named Ichabod Crane gets wrapped up the spooky legend of the Headless Horseman.

Today you’ll hear “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and learn about the heart-pounding events that took place on one fateful Halloween night. It’s a story of love, rivalry, and the supernatural and I’ve simplified it for intermediate and advanced English learners. Get ready for some excitement and some suspense, you’re about to hear a story that has been passed down from generation to generation for over 200 years!!
❓Have you heard of this legend?
❓Do you have a legend like this one in your country?

To gross out means to disgust or repulse. You’ll To gross out means to disgust or repulse. You’ll often see it separated by a pronoun (me, you, him, her, it, us, them), which is the object of the sentence.
✅ My uncle likes to dip his ham sandwiches in milk! It grosses all of us out.
✅ Please don’t blow your nose at the dinner table, it grosses me out.
✅ She can’t watch the hot dog eating competition, it grosses her out!
👉🏼 You might also see “to gross out” together, but it’s slightly less common. “The unfamiliar cuisine grossed out the family of picky eaters.”
What grosses you out? Let me know in the comments.

Episode 151 is out! It’s about the expression “to steer clear” and moose 🫎! Moose are majestic creatures and an iconic symbol of wilderness in North America. They inhabit many northern states in the U.S.; the state with the biggest population is Alaska.

In this episode, you'll learn many English words related to nature and animals, but it's much more than a National Geographic style lesson. You're about to step into the funny, wild and sometimes tragic tales that emerge as humans and moose try to live harmoniously.

In this lesson, we'll answer questions like:
1. What is it like to live near moose?
2. Will I be attacked by a moose in the Northeast?
3. Do Americans hunt moose? Do they eat moose?
Take time to appreciate moose! :) (yes, moose is the plural form)

To hold (me / you / him / her / us / them) over me To hold (me / you / him / her / us / them) over means to satisfy one’s hunger until a next big meal.
✅ These almonds held ME over until lunch = They satisfied my hunger until lunch.
✅ Can you eat something small to hold YOU over until dinner? = Can you eat something to satisfy your hunger until we have dinner?
✅ This small bag of carrots is not going to hold ME over! I need something with more calories. = This small bag of carrots is not going to satisfy my hunger until my next big meal, I need something with more calories.
👉🏼 IMPORTANT: To hold over has multiple meanings. This is a common one! It’s always separable; place the “me, us, him, her, them” (the object pronoun) between hold and over. For example, my heavy breakfast held ME over until dinner.
What’s your go-to snack that you eat when you know you won’t have a big meal for another few hours?
Try to use this in example sentence in the comments.
